PAT Testing Norwich
If you’re an employer, you’re going to need a qualified person or company to PAT test your electrical equipment on an annual basis, and possibly when you purchase additional appliances, especially if they’re of a dubious origin and not a recognised brand.
You, and your employees too, have a responsibility under the electricity at work regulations to take necessary steps to ensure no danger comes from using electrical equipment, so PAT testing should be a part of your Health & Safety policy.
Although it’s not a legal requirement, Portable Appliance Testing (PAT testing) is the recognised method of inspection in the UK, and an annual test will let you know if your equipment is either still safe to use or a potential shock or fire hazard.
If you have a business in or around Norwich and you’d like to get your electrical equipment PAT tested, give MTS Electrical a call on 01493 717206 and book a convenient time.

We’ll make sure all work is done quickly and efficiently with a minimum of disruption to your business premises.
Does Pat Testing apply to every business?
It applies to any business where electrical equipment is used by employees, or hired and supplied, or repaired or serviced.
It also applies if the appliances are used by the public – for example, schools, hotels, retail outlets, Village Halls, etc. So, you can see it’s not just larger businesses, but pretty much everyone.
Why is PAT testing Important?
Pat Testing is important simply because failure to comply with a regular inspection and maintenance schedule could result in injury, or perhaps worse.
This could mean prosecution, property damage, and other inevitable consequences.
It’s true that most electrical safety defects will be picked up by visual inspection, so making it a habit to check your appliances is always good practice. However, some defects can only be found by testing.
With such a large number of fires being attributed to faulty electrical equipment every year, why take a chance?
What Happens during a PAT Test?
A PAT Test should be performed by qualified a PAT tester or electrician.
They will use calibrated portable appliance testing devices, and once an item passes the test, a PASS sticker will be attached.
A FAIL sticker will be applied to those items that fail the PAT test, so they can be disposed of appropriately.
The labels will also specify the date of the test, and the date the next retest is due, along with the contact details of the tester.
